When did Biblical inerrancy become a thing?
The doctrine of inerrancy took shape during the 19th and 20th centuries in the United States. A statement crafted in 1978 by hundreds of evangelical leaders remains its fullest articulation.
Proponents of Biblical inerrancy often cite 2 Timothy 3:16 as evidence that scripture is inerrant. For this argument, they prefer translations that render the verse as "All scripture is given by inspiration of God," and they interpret this to mean that the whole Bible must therefore be inerrant.
The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy is a written statement of belief formulated by more than 200 evangelical leaders at a conference convened by the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy and held in Chicago in October 1978.

The New Testament writers confirm the Old Testament's claim to be the very Word of God. Repeatedly, the New Testament refers to Old Testament texts, its laws, its claims, and its stories as the actual Word of God.
Nimrod is described in Genesis 10:8–12 as “the first on earth to be a mighty man. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord.” The only other references to Nimrod in the Bible are in Micah 5:6, where Assyria is called the land of Nimrod, and in 1 Chronicles 1:10, which reiterates his might.
Apocrypha are written works, often of unknown authorship or doubtful origin. In Christianity, the word apocryphal (ἀπόκρυφος) was first applied to writings which were to be read privately rather than in the public context of church services -- edifying Christian works which were not considered canonical Scripture.

Does the ELCA believe the Bible is inerrant?
ELCA clergy tend not to subscribe to a doctrine of biblical inerrancy, but see validity in various scholarly methods of analysis to help in understanding the Bible, a process sometimes called Higher Criticism.
The American Constitution itself was founded upon Biblical standards. It is the Bible that sets forth spiritual laws and records God's enduring promises. The most wonderful message of this document is that it reveals God's plan of redemption for the human race.
The Bible is infallible if and only if it makes no false or misleading statements on any matter of faith and practice." In this sense it is seen as distinct from biblical inerrancy.
During its early centuries, the Christian church dealt with many heresies. They included, among others, docetism, Montanism, adoptionism, Sabellianism, Arianism, Pelagianism, and gnosticism. See also Donatist; Marcionite; monophysite.
According to Augustine, heretics sin by potentially committing three kinds of idolatry: loving a lie/false conception of God instead of the true God, loving their own beliefs more than the Truth, which is God, and loving the worldly praise they receive from developing their own novel opinions more than God.
So as Paul is in Romans 11:33 and he says, “Oh, the depth of the wisdom,” this is what he's talking about, the wisdom of Christ and Him crucified, the wisdom that God can be both just and the justifier, that God can save sinners yet in no way forfeit His righteousness by failing to punish sin.
The message of Deuteronomy 31:6 is a strong reassurance of the omnipresent God in every life situations. Human beings are limited in nature but we serve an unlimited God. God is always available for His children. He knows our limits, He will not tempt beyond our limit because He is our creator.
Deuteronomy 14:22-29 recommends that tithes for Levites should be brought to the temple as the Levites were sustained with the proceeds of these tithes. The Levites were not engaged in any other assignment than to make people understand the law of God (Douglas 1994:291).
We have copies of the manuscripts and throughout history these copies show that the Bible has been transmitted accurately. Despite common skeptical claims that the Bible has often been changed through the centuries, the physical evidence tells another story. The New Testament records are incredibly accurate.
These Biblical records can be and are used as are other ancient documents in archaeological work.” In other words, not only does archaeology confirm that the Bible is historically accurate, but professional archaeologists actually use the Bible as a guide in their work.
How do we know if God is real?
As mentioned earlier, evidence for God's existence is widely available through creation, conscience, rationality and human experience. What is more, the biblical faith—unlike other traditional religions—is checkable; it opens itself up to public scrutiny.
Some Important Principles, Doctrines, and Events. Moses saw God face-to-face upon an unknown mountain sometime after he spoke to the Lord in the burning bush but before he went to free the children of Israel from Egypt (see Moses 1:1–2, 17, 25–26, 42; see also Exodus 3:1–10).
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The verse has been a source of much debate among Bible scholars and translators. What does it mean that Abraham was “chosen before [he was] born”? (See Abraham 3:23. He was foreordained to be a prophet.)
One possible reason for Jewish rejection of the book might be the textual nature of several early sections of the book that make use of material from the Torah; for example, 1 En 1 is a midrash of Deuteronomy 33.
They reasoned that not printing the Apocrypha within the Bible would prove to be less costly to produce. Since that time most modern editions of the Bible and reprintings of the King James Bible omit the Apocrypha section. Modern non-Catholic reprintings of the Clementine Vulgate commonly omit the Apocrypha section.
This book is known as the 15 apocrypha books of the Bible, they were removed from the Bible by the Protestant Church in the 1800's. These books are as true today, as they were in the 1800's, before being omitted from the Bible.

While Baptists love and respect the Bible, they do not worship it. The Bible is the written word of God. In and of itself it is paper and ink, words and sentences, and has no life. The Bible is not the supreme revelation of God—It points to and must be fulfilled and completed by God's Living Word, Jesus Christ.
Dispensationalism has become very popular with American evangelicalism, especially among nondenominational Bible churches, Baptists, Pentecostal, and Charismatic groups. Conversely, Protestant denominations that embrace covenant theology as a whole tend to reject dispensationalism.

We are a part of God's unfolding plan.
The level of agreement necessary to join together in one church body. What is the error of inerrancy?
THE ERROR OF INERRANCY is a concise and unassailable refutation of the false doctrine of Biblical inerrancy. It tells a hard truth that many Christians don't want to hear, but it's a message that's long overdue.

Heresy is defined by the Catholic Church as "the obstinate denial or obstinate doubt after the reception of baptism of some truth which is to be believed by divine and Catholic faith". The term heresy connotes both the belief in itself, and the attitude towards said belief.
Christian Gnosticism. The Christian idea that God has sent his only “Son” (the Logos) to suffer and die for the sins of all humankind, and so make possible the salvation of all, had a deep impact on Gnostic thought.
The first known usage of the term 'heresy' in a civil legal context was in 380 by the "Edict of Thessalonica" of Theodosius I. Prior to the issuance of this edict, the Church had no state-sponsored support for any particular legal mechanism to counter what it perceived as 'heresy'.

Sola Scriptura is an abuse of the Bible, since it is a use of the Bible contrary to its explicit and implicit testimony about itself and Tradition. An objective reading of the Bible leads one to Tradition and the Catholic Church, rather than the opposite.
For our faith rests upon the revelation made to the apostles and prophets who wrote the canonical books, and not on the revelations (if any such there are) made to other doctors. For this reason, some sources say that prima scriptura is the normative Catholic approach.
The five solas state that Christians are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone.
2) The Bible's Witness to Itself
The Lord Jesus said in Matthew chapter 5, verses 17 and 18, “Not a letter or a part of a letter will pass away until all of it is fulfilled.” He said in John 10:35, “The Scriptures cannot be broken.” He said in John 17:17 in His high-priestly prayer to His Father, “Your Word is truth.”
